What exactly is tiramisu?

Tiramisu is familiar to many: this dessert is a cold, layered cake, usually made with coffee and liqueur.  Some variations of this recipe are those that use chocolate or fruit.

Often, “finger-like” savoiardi biscuits (called “ladyfingers” in English), which have first been soaked in coffee, are used in the manufacture.

Tiramisu is a very traditional dessert, dating back to the 1950s in Italy, more specifically in Venice. Its name comes from the Italian words Tira mi su , which can be roughly translated as “lift me up” (this expression is, of course, due to the coffee and sugar contained in the cake!).

Let’s move on to the presentation of two great tiramisu recipes without further ado. Choose the one that is more attractive to you and start experimenting, because the end result is worth the effort!

Although tiramisu was once made without liqueur, this is worth using, as this will make your cake really delicious when the liqueur combines with the taste of the coffee.

Also note that the cheese selection should be mascarpone, which is usually the ingredient in tiramisu and has been for a long time. You can also add other ingredients that you think are a good fit for your taste.

Ingredients

  • 480 g of mascarpone cheese
  • 360 g savoiardi biscuits
  • 6 eggs
  • 240 g icing sugar
  • 125 ml of amaretto liqueur
  • 120 g of cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 240 ml of very strong coffee
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Plastic wrap

1. Preparation of filling for tiramisu

  • First, put some water to a boil on the stove.
  • At the same time, separate the egg yolks from the proteins and place them in a bowl. Then make them wait.
  • Put the yolks in a metal bowl, and add half the icing sugar and vanilla extract. Beat the ingredients until they foam.
  • Place the bowl over the boiling water pot, and continue beating.
  • Gradually add the liqueur so that it mixes well with the mixture.
  • Remove the mixture from the heat and beat a little more, and then let it wait.
  • Cover the bowl with a plastic wrap.

2. Tiramisu making: assembling a cake

Lower calorie tiramisu
